¿ COVID UPDATE - Tuesday February 16
¿ In some encouraging news, the number of Covid cases recorded globally has been dropping significantly in recent weeks. Case numbers reached over 850,000 a day last month, but that figure is now halved and falling. Sadly, the global death toll is approaching 2.5 million, with the death toll in the US expected to hit 500,000 today.
¿ As you also may have heard, vaccines will start being rolled out in Australia on Monday, with quarantine workers, nurses and other frontline staff first in line.
¿ On the local front, NSW has recorded no new case of community transmission for the 30th consecutive day. Just the 1 new case among the returned overseas travellers in quarantine over the past 24 hours.
¿ The Hunter-New England region has now gone 194 days without a locally-acquired case.
¿ The number of active cases in Victoria is now 25, with two more cases of community transmission recorded overnight. There are 7 in QLD, 5 in WA, 3 in SA and 5 in the NT. Tasmania, the ACT and NSW have zero active cases (NSW currently treating 23 returned travellers in quarantine.)
¿ Australia's death toll remains at 909 with 56 in NSW and 820 in Victoria.
¿ Please continue to stay safe, vigilant, maintain the social distancing, and wear a mask if you have to visit places where social distancing is difficult.
¿ Don't forget, if you have any symptoms, however minor, please self-isolate and get tested immediately.
