The proposed upgrade to Mandalong Road at Morisset, southwest of Newcastle, has taken another step forward with the community consultation report for the preferred design display now published. The Australian Government is investing $56 million and the NSW Government is investing $20 million in upgrades to Mandalong Road. The community and key stakeholders were invited to have their say on the preferred design for the proposed upgrade from 26 June to 4 August last year.

I was joined today by the Minister for Sport, the Hon Steve Kamper, to announce the Office of Sport has secured land on the grounds of Morisset Hospital to build its new sports facility. The 7 hectare site is at the northern end of the Morisset Hospital complex and takes in the existing bowling club and sports oval. Ideally situated on the shores of Lake Macquarie, water sports enthusiasts will also enjoy easy access to the

Lake Macquarie Road Infrastructure - 22nd November 2024
In Lake Macquarie we are blessed with a unique natural environment. Our environment supports swimming, birdwatching, boating and hiking. With a beautiful environment, great strategic location, available land and an overall enviable lifestyle, it is no wonder that there is significant population growth. Unfortunately I cannot always be so effusive about our built environment. The infrastructure needed to support our growing community is just not there.
Biodiversity Conservation Amendment (Biodiversity Offsets Scheme) Bill 2024 – Second Reading Debate - 22nd November 2024
I contribute to debate on the Biodiversity Conservation Amendment (Biodiversity Offsets Scheme) Bill 2024. It has long been my view that the Biodiversity Offsets Scheme is broken and that is now a view shared by many of us here, but perhaps for different reasons. Earlier I was speaking to Emily Dyball about my recollections as mayor of the City of Lake Macquarie during that period when some of the changes came in, with biobanking in particular. A complex matter we dealt with were major developm
Christmas Felicitations - 21st November 2024
It has been a very interesting first full year of the Fifty-Eighth Parliament. From a political point of view, a lot of business has been transacted in this House, albeit in only 15 full weeks of parliamentary sittings. But as the Leader of the House referenced earlier, a lot has certainly been achieved. The Parliament itself has seen a lot of activity. It is 200 years since the embryonic parliamentary system was established here, not just in New South Wales
Crimes Amendment (Obstructing A Railway) Bill 2024 – Second Reading Debate - 19th November 2024
I make a contribution to debate on the Crimes Amendment (Obstructing a Railway) Bill 2024, following my regional colleague the member for Maitland. A number of members in that area have particular awareness of the significant issue of the impact of protests on coal freight and the safety of people participating in such protests. The bill has been introduced following recent protest activity on the Hunter rail network, which disrupted both coal and commuter
Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Amendment (Puppy Farming) Bill 2024 - 15th November 2024
I welcome and strongly support the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Amendment (Puppy Farming) Bill 2024. It is the product of many years of consultation and it comes as a relief to those who have long worked for reform. I commend those stakeholders for their part in shaping the bill before us today. In 2015 I served on the Joint Select Committee on Companion Animal Breeding Practices in NSW, chaired by the then member for Northern Tablelands, Adam Marshall
Lake Macquarie Water Safety - 15th November 2024
For the past 99 years the public baths at Toronto have offered the people of Lake Macquarie and their visitors alike a relatively safe spot to swim, fish and tie up their boats. Back in the 1930s, they even featured a dressing shed. However, over the years, the ever-popular historic facility became somewhat dated, not quite keeping up with the needs of modern society.
Infrastructure to Unlock Housing Potential and Ease Traffic in Morisset - 13th November 2024
The Minns Labor Government is delivering new infrastructure to the Lake Macquarie community to unlock more homes and build better communities. Lake Macquarie is a key growth area, and the NSW Government is making sure new homes are being built alongside supporting infrastructure through the State Voluntary Planning Agreement Funding Program (SVPA Funding Program).
