More than $140,000 has been secured to improve facilities at the popular Morisset PCYC centre.

Member for Lake Macquarie Greg Piper has secured $140,312 in funding for the Kahibah Street centre, enabling it to install state-of-the-art insulation and fans.

The project has been successfully funded through round two of the State Government’s Stronger Country Communities Fund.

“Sport and other activities have been almost impossible at the peak of recent summers, so this will go a long way towards improving things for everyone who uses this great facility,” Mr Piper said.

Club manager Rosmairi Dawson said the centre will no longer be at the mercy of extreme weather.

“We hit 44.5 degrees inside one day last summer, and we’ve been down as low as 2 degrees in the winter,” Ms Dawson said.

“This grant will allow us to install a special type of ceiling insulation which is like refrigerator panels. It will drastically improve conditions inside for sporting teams and other activities.

“Large fans will also be installed to keep the air circulating. We currently host basketball and futsal competitions, some wheelchair sports and we’ll soon be hosting a new netball comp, so this will really benefit all of the centre’s users.”

Deputy Premier and Minister for Regional NSW John Barilaro said the roll-out of the second round projects will take the State Government’s commitment to the Stronger Country Communities program to more than $300m.

“I congratulate Morisset PCYC and Lake Macquarie City Council on their successful application and look forward to this facility becoming an even more attractive place to work and play,” Mr Barilaro said.
