As the world transitions away from coal fired power, clean energy industries need to be developed to support our energy needs. Offshore wind is used around the world.

As the world transitions away from coal fired power, clean energy industries need to be developed to support our energy needs.

Offshore wind is successfully used for power generation across the world. The Hunter is well positioned for offshore wind and with responsible development this new industry could create thousands of new jobs in our region.

Today I joined local community members, community groups and a number of my State and Federal parliamentary colleagues to hear how the Hunter could benefit from an offshore wind industry and to show our support for offshore wind in the Hunter.

Offshore wind projects in the Hunter are in the early stages of development. Feasibility licences are yet to be issued and more community consultation and environmental studies need to be completed, but I believe offshore wind provides a great opportunity for our region as we transition towards a more sustainable future.
