VirtualKIDS Urgent Care Services
30th January 2024
There is nothing more worrying for a parent than having a sick child and we all know the current pressures NSW Hospitals and emergency departments are experiencing.
Last year the virtualKIDS Urgent Care Service was trialled, aimed at helping families avoid unnecessary hospital trips, relieve pressure on emergency departments and to ensure seriously ill patients are seen sooner.
The virtualKIDS Urgent Care Service will now be available to all families with children up to 16 with non-life-threatening health concerns across NSW via referral from healthdirect on 1800 022 222.
The service uses video conferencing to connect families with a clinical nurse to determine the best care. Whether this is a visit to an emergency department, consultation with a virtualKIDS expert paediatrician, a trip to the GP, or recovering at home with guidance for the family. There is no cost to parents or carers if their child has a Medicare card – just like a visit to a hospital ED.
If you have a life-threatening emergency you should still call Triple Zero (000) for an ambulance or go to a hospital emergency department immediately.
