A boost for police recruits
31st October 2023

I was so pleased to hear today's announcement by the Premier Chris Minns and Minister for Police and Counter-terrorism Yasmin Catley MP that NSW student police officers will now be paid while studying at the Goulburn Police Academy.
From March 2024 student police officers will be employed on temporary fixed term contracts and will receive a total salary of approximately $30,984 over the 16-week study period. Current students will also not miss out receiving scholarships from Charles Stuart University.
This is a sensible step which will fix a major wrong in our police recruitment process. Police trainees spend a number of months away from home training to become officers, they should not have to pay for the privilege of doing so.
I am so grateful for the dedication and service of our wonderful police officers. You do such an important job for our community each and every day. Our community needs more of you. I hope this change will make it easier for people to join the NSW Police Force and will attract more people to this challenging but rewarding career.
