Swansea Channel Dredging
1st August 2023

Fantastic news today with an announcement that the Swansea Channel dredging will commence this month.
After years of bungled promises and delays we finally have a plan ready to action! Stage one is set to be complete in time for the upcoming boating season.
Dredging will extend from the Pelican Foreshore in the south, including the channels south-west and east of Elizabeth Island. The project will clear about 30,000 cubic metres of sand from the channel to create a 30 metre safe passage for vessels up to 2.5 metres of draft.
I have received a lot of feedback over the last couple of years seeking Swansea Channel's regular dredging to grant safe passage for larger vessels.
After years of pressure on Transport for NSW, the new Minister for Transport Jo Haylen, has announced the plan to restore coastal access to our beautiful Lake Macquarie. I am excited to see our gates finally open again so that more people can enjoy the waters we call home.
