¿ A second fish kill in the lake near Mannering Park yesterday is alarming.
¿ As I reported only last week following the first kill, the EPA had completed all the tests it could do on metals, pesticides and toxins in the water, as well as on the dead fish, and could not pinpoint any exact cause. It also checked for unusual emissions or water discharges from the Vales Point Power Station.
¿ They concluded that the kill was most likely caused by a combination of naturally-occurring factors including the disruption of sediment, weather conditions over the past few months including floods, and a possible rapid change in water temperature or salinity.
¿ The EPA is back on site investigating the latest incident.
¿ It's obviously a great concern to us all. I know that the Member for Swansea Yasmin Catley MP and myself are both pushing for further investigations and so far the Government and EPA have been responsive. I'll keep you updated on any news.
