¿ FLOOD UPDATE - 10am Thursday
¿ The lake level peaked above the minor flood level on last night's high tide at 0.77m. It is expected to reach a similar level on this afternoon's high tide (2.21pm or a little later, depending on which part of the lake you're at). So that will again cause minor flooding in low-lying areas.
¿ The worst of the crazy weather has now passed. Still a little rain predicted over the next few days but nothing to be concerned about at this stage.
¿ Following representations to the State and Federal governments, I'm hoping to hear news in the next day or so that our district will be included in the list of natural disaster areas, and that will open up eligibility for financial assistance to those whose homes and businesses sustained significant damage, as well as Lake Macquarie City Council which has another mammoth job ahead of it in fixing roads and public spaces.
¿ Can I again send a shout-out to our SES and RFS volunteers, along with all our emergency services and council crews who have been working extraordinary hours in extremely difficult circumstances. The clean up will take a while but I extend my gratitude to everyone out there assisting our local communities today, in particular NSW SES Lake Macquarie Unit and NSW SES Cooranbong Unit. Thank you!
