¿ COVID UPDATE - 1.10pm, WEDNESDAY FEBRUARY 16
¿ On a positive note, hospitalisation and ICU numbers are generally pretty stable so our high vaccination rate is certainly doing its job and ensuring that most people avoid severe symptoms and illness, but there's been a significant rise in case numbers over the past week. Case numbers in the Hunter have been the highest in the State for the past 8 days, and the statewide number has gone back over 10,000 a day. As much as we all hate them, masks reduce the chances of infection by 53%, so please take a little care and use common sense when out and about.
¿ Covid patients currently in Hunter Health district hospitals: 40 (down 1 since yesterday)
¿ Covid patients in Hunter ICU: 3 (down 2 since yesterday)
¿ Covid patients currently in NSW hospitals: 1478 (down 105 since yesterday)
¿ Covid patients in NSW ICU: 92 (stable, 46 on ventilation)
¿ New cases in Hunter-New England Health district in past 24 hours: 1672 (up 413 on previous day's figure. This is the highest daily total of any health district in NSW for the 8th consecutive day. 590 PCR + 1082 RAT).
¿ New cases statewide since yesterday: 10,463 (up 2262 on the previous day, PCR 4068 + 6395 RAT)
¿ New cases in Lake Macquarie over the past four weeks: 4483 (down 244 on previous day's figure)
¿ Lives lost in NSW over the past 24 hours: 27 (11 more than the previous day). This brings the total number of lives lost to Covid in NSW to 1772 (in Australia 4726).
