Covid update - Thursday

3424 new cases have been recorded in the Hunter Health district over the past 24 hours, including 866 in Lake Macquarie. Sadly, a man and a woman both in their 60s from the Lake Macquarie area have died at John Hunter Hospital.
¿ COVID UPDATE - 11.15am, THURSDAY JANUARY 6
¿ 3424 new cases have been recorded in the Hunter Health district over the past 24 hours, including 866 in Lake Macquarie.
¿ Sadly, a man and a woman both in their 60s from the Lake Macquarie area have died at John Hunter Hospital. They were among six deaths reported statewide overnight. Both had received two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine and had underlying health conditions. My sincere condolences go out to their family and friends.
¿ Hunter Region: 2940 new cases.
¿ We now have 13,974 active cases in the health district.
¿ Unfortunately our hospitalisation numbers are still rising - we now have 89 local people being cared for in our hospitals, and 9 are in ICU.
¿ Statewide: 34,994 new cases, and six deaths.
¿ Of the new cases in the health district:

- 437 are from Maitland LGA
- 345 are from Port Stephens LGA
- 281 are from Mid Coast LGA

¿ STATEWIDE
- 95% of people aged 16+ have had one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine
- 93.6% of people aged 16+ have had two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine
- 81.4% of people aged 12-15 have had one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine
- 78% of people aged 12-15 have had two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine
- 111,231 tests
- 34,994 total new cases
- 1,609 people in hospital
- 131 people in ICU
- 6 deaths
