COVID UPDATE - 11AM, FRIDAY DECEMBER 31 Well the public holiday lag has caught up in today’s figures - 1983 new cases have been recorded in the Hunter Health district, including 480 in Lake Macquarie. Hunter Region: 1897 new cases. We now have 10,138 active cases in the District. On a reasonably positive note despite the case numbers, we have 35 people being cared for in our hospitals and just 2 in ICU. Statewide: 21,151 new cases, and six more deaths. Sadly, this includes a man in his 70s who died at John Hunter Hospital. He was a resident of the Kilpatrick Court aged care facility in Toronto, where he acquired his infection. He had received two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine. My condolences to his family and all his friends at the village. Of the new cases in the health district:- 730 are from Newcastle LGA

STATEWIDE- 95% of people aged 16+ have had one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine
- 93.6% of people aged 16+ have had two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine
- 81.5% of people aged 12-15 have had one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine
- 78.2% of people aged 12-15 have had two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine
- 148,410 tests
- 21,151 total new cases
- 832 people in hospital
- 69 people in ICU
- 6 deaths
