¿ 15 NEW LOCAL CASES in HUNTER REGION ¿
¿ COVID UPDATE - 11.10am Wednesday August 18 ¿
¿ There were 15 new cases recorded in the Hunter-New England health district in the 24 hours to 8pm last night. This brings the total number of cases in our health district to 145.
¿ Of those 15 cases, 3 are from the Lake Macquarie LGA, 2 are from the Maitland LGA, 10 from the Newcastle LGA.
¿ In Lake Macquarie's three cases, two were in Cardiff and 1 in Barnsley, with both of the Cardiff cases infectious in the community. Of Newcastle's 10 cases, 8 were at Elermore Vale, 1 at New Lambton and 1 at New Lambton Heights. Of Maitland's cases, 1 is at Ashtonfield and 1 at Bolwarra Heights.
¿ STATEWIDE: Of great concern, the State recorded a very worrying 633 new cases in the 24 hours to 8pm last night. Of those cases, 550 were in SW Sydney. Sadly, another 3 deaths were also recorded, all in Sydney.
¿ HOSPITALISATIONS: There are 462 people currently being treated for Covid-19 in NSW hospitals, with 77 in ICU and 25 on ventilators.
¿ As you may have heard this morning, all residents in an apartment building at Cardiff have been locked down following positive tests among three members of the same household. Those people are being tested and will have to isolate until they get a negative result. It's precautionary, obviously, but still a concern and very much a tough time for all of those residents.
¿ HNE Health has also expressed concern for residents in a number of disability group homes at Glendale, Lambton and Merewether. This follows three positive tests among staff members who visit each of the homes. HNE Health and the operator of the homes are working to contain any further infections. All staff and residents are being tested and remain isolated.
