¿ NEW RESTRICTIONS - COVID UPDATE - Saturday July 17 ¿
¿ The Premier has today announced tougher restrictions for the Greater Sydney and Central Coast area. Can I firstly emphasise that current restrictions in Lake Macquarie and the Newcastle area do not change. Our record remains intact, and we do not have any community transmission in the area.
¿ From midnight tonight, new restrictions in the Greater Sydney and Central Coast area include:
¿ People in the Fairfield, Liverpool, Canterbury-Bankstown and Liverpool council areas will enter a full lockdown - no one is allowed to leave their council area unless they're a health worker or providing emergency care.
¿ Perhaps most importantly for our area, no construction or trades are allowed on the Central Coast or Greater Sydney area until July 30. That includes outdoor construction sites, home maintenance and renovation, cleaners etc - they are shut down. Non-emergency work in those industries cannot take place on the Central Coast or in Greater Sydney.
¿ Also importantly, car pooling is now not allowed in the Central Coast and Greater Sydney area. Only people from the same household can travel together in those areas.
¿ All non-essential shops on the Central Coast and Greater Sydney will have to close from midnight until July 30. See my comment below for a list of what essential shops are.
¿ Sydney recorded 111 new cases of community transmission in the 24 hours to 8pm. Of those, 29 were active in the Sydney community while infectious. The State has sadly recorded another death - a man in his 80s from SW Sydney.
¿ We have 75 people being treated for Covid-19 in hospital. 18 are in ICU and 6 are on ventilators.
¿ Our local area has now gone 345 days without a case of community transmission. As I posted earlier this morning, a service station at Thornton is now among exposure sites, but NSW Health says the site posed only a very low risk to the community during a six-minute window - see earlier post.
¿ Please remember that the most important thing you can be doing right now is using common sense when moving around the place and getting tested if you experience any symptoms. Please stay vigilant and stay safe!
