¿ COVID UPDATE - Tuesday July 6 ¿
¿ In good news, there are a number of signs that the outbreak in Sydney is being contained.
¿ NSW recorded 18 cases of community transmission in the 24 hours to 8pm last night, but 16 of those were in total or partial isolation during their infectious period. That means only two people were circulating in the Sydney area while infectious, and that's the most important number that health agencies are looking at.
¿ The Premier has said today that the current restrictions are being reviewed and an announcement on whether or not they'll be extended a week will be made tomorrow morning.
¿ Just following up on yesterday's post about masks in cars, I'm yet to hear back from any of the Ministers but will let you know when I do. I'm very aware that people are getting conflicting information from Service NSW and from police themselves, which is why I've asked for clarity on this rule. As I said yesterday, the Public Health Order itself is not clear on this issue so I think that police fining people from different addresses for not wearing masks in cars is a bit of a stretch in our area, particularly given we haven't had any community transmission locally for almost a year and people are overwhelmingly trying to do the right thing.
¿ Just on that point, there hasn't been a case of community transmission in Lake Macquarie or Newcastle for 334 days. Well done us!
