What an extraordinary story! 2020 continues to get weirder! Looks like a tawny frogmouth to me, but nevertheless, the story's a hoot! Lake Macquarie Police had this to say about a very strange encounter at Belmont last night:

Low flying owl hits driver in the head and causes car crash
At 10.30pm tonight, 12/12/2020 a delivery driver was traveling west on John Street at Belmont North in his van, when a low flying owl flew through the open driver's window and collided with the head of the driver, a 21 year old male from Birmingham Gardens. The impact stunned the driver and the owl and caused the van to collide with an unattended parked car causing considerable damage to both vehicles. The driver of the van, fearing he would be attacked for a second time jumped from his vehicle and was assisted by nearby residents, one of whom photographed the owl seated on the dash of the delivery van. The owl failed to exchange particulars and made good his escape before the police arrived on scene. Thankfully there was photographic evidence otherwise we never would have believed the story. If you recognise the owl, please contact your nearest police station.
