New Wangi jetty opens

Really pleased to announce the new $1.38m Wangi Wangi jetty officially open! 

The jetty, which was co-funded by Transport for NSW and Lake Macquarie City Council, will not only be popular among the Wangi locals but also with the many boaters who use the lake.

It was originally owned by the RSL club but was closed when the club couldn’t afford repairs, so an ownership transfer had to take place while we sought funding to rebuild it.

The new jetty is much bigger than the old one and provides more space for watercraft to be secured in a variety of weather conditions.

The result is really fantastic and I’m delighted to see it finally opened.

The State Government chipped in $717,057 from the NSW Boating Now fund, while Lake Macquarie City Council added the remaining $668,779 to get the project completed.

Lake Macquarie Mayor Kay Fraser said the improvements had already been well received by locals and boat owners.

“I would like to thank the Wangi Wangi community for their patience throughout this project and while it has taken longer than planned, the upgraded facility will provide improved lake access and recreational boating opportunities for years to come,” Mayor Fraser said.

While the new jetty is now open for use, the boating and fishing communities are reminded of the social distancing regulations which are currently in place due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Jetty users are reminded to only gather in groups of two and comply with social distancing requirements of 1.5m.
