Paul Johnson
I would like to recognise the efforts of Paul Johnson from Killingworth, who for nearly two decades has nurtured and guided teenagers not only through high school, but also the challenging Duke of Edinburgh Awards program. Paul has been a Duke of Edinburgh Awards group co-ordinator for 18 years, making him the longest serving co-ordinator of groups in New South Wales. Late last year, Paul's meaningful contribution was officially recognised when he was presented with an award at Government House where Prince Edward, the Duke of Edinburgh himself, was in attendance. While this prestigious event was underway in Sydney West Wallsend High School, where Paul has worked for 16 years, was preparing for its Year 12 formal. Not wanting to let his students down, Paul travelled back up the freeway to surprise them with his attendance and, I understand he was joyously and tearfully received. Paul is a favoured teacher amongst the school's pupils. Many credit him with making a difference to their lives through his guidance during the Duke of Edinburgh Award experience. I thank Paul for everything he has done for our next generation of young leaders.
