I wish to acknowledge South Lake Macquarie Amateur Sailing Club for the remarkable work they do in our local community. The club, which sails out of Sunshine on the southern shores of Lake Macquarie, is celebrating its seventieth anniversary this year. It is a modest club but one that achieves great things. Over the recent long weekend, it hosted the biggest sailing event held in Australia so far this year. Although the club is run entirely by volunteers, it was able to successfully stage the 2017 State Youth Championships, which attracted 288 boats and almost 400 young sailors aged between 7 and 19.

Lake Macquarie has produced some of the world's best sailors and is home to a string of Olympic gold medallists and world sailing champions. At the heart of that success are clubs like South Lake Macquarie which invest so much time and energy into providing young people with the skills and resources necessary to become champion sailors, and champion members of the community. I am very pleased to acknowledge the club's efforts in the Parliament, and I congratulate President Phil Evans along with the executive committee, its members and volunteers.
