Morisset High School
For the past 60 years Morisset High School has served western Lake Macquarie as an educational centre of excellence, inclusion and student empowerment. Under the guidance of Principal Darren Brailey, the school has fostered an environment where "every student is valued, every story matters, and every dream has a chance to grow." I recently had the privilege of joining with past and present students, teachers, staff and the wider community to commemorate the school's 60th birthday. The anniversary celebrations showcased musical and artistic talents of students on the main stage and offered a walk down memory lane with historical displays inside the hall. The school has a long and proud history of promoting Aboriginal education and celebrating our First Nations people's culture. Around 21% of students identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander, and it was wonderful to announce a $28,716 Community Building Partnerships grant to Itji-Marru Aboriginal Resource Centre. Since its establishment in 1965, Morisset High School has been a cornerstone of learning and growth for thousands of students in western Lake Macquarie, including two of my sons and granddaughters. Congratulations Morisset High School on this remarkable milestone.
