Late last year, I had the privilege of meeting two outstanding young men, Michael Dearing and Coden Smith, proud members of the 1st Byattunga Scout Group at Morisset, as they were presented with King's Scout Awards. This is the highest honour a Venturer Scout can achieve and is not awarded lightly. Earning the King's Scout Award requires years of dedication, leadership, community service, outdoor skills and personal development, qualities Michael and Coden demonstrated in spades. The King's Scout Award has a proud history spanning more than a century, originating under King Edward VII and continuing today as a mark of exceptional effort and character. Only a small number of Scouts reach this milestone each year, making their achievement particularly significant. As part of their awards, Michael and Coden each completed demanding personal challenges and leadership requirements, including adventurous journeys that tested their resilience, teamwork and problem-solving skills. These experiences reflect the commitment and perseverance required to reach this level. Michael and Coden have shown they are leaders of the future. I congratulate them, their leaders, parents and volunteers, and the entire 1st Byattunga Scout Group.
