Few people can say they have dedicated 35 years to serving their local community, which is why it was a privilege to see Matthew Naylor recognised at the 2026 NSW RFS Central Coast Volunteer Appreciation Day and Medal Presentation, where he was awarded the National Medal 2nd Clasp in recognition of his service with Wyee and Wyee Point Brigades dating back to 1989. This accolade was just the latest of many. Matthew has previously been awarded the RFS Long Service Medal 1st and 2nd clasp, National Medal and 1st Clasp, Life Membership of Wyee Brigade, Premier's Bushfire Emergency Citation, and the National Emergency Medal & Clasp for Black Summer Fires 2019/2020. Across three and a half decades, Matthew has become widely respected not only for his operational knowledge, but for the leadership and mentorship he continues to provide within the Brigade. He earned firefighter qualifications up to Crew Leader and holds specialist skills including RFS Instructor and Breathing Apparatus Operator. As Captain of Wyee Brigade since 2015, he has helped guide members through major emergencies, training and brigade life with professionalism and dedication.
