Dr Gordon Campbell
It is my great honour to congratulate Dr Gordon Robert Campbell OAM, of Cooranbong, on being awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia in the 2026 Australia Day Honours. This recognition acknowledges a lifetime of service to medicine and community care, particularly in the field of obstetrics and gynaecology. Dr Campbell's career reflects a deep and enduring commitment to the health and wellbeing of women, children and families. From his early work as a general practitioner in Morisset, to more than three decades as a specialist Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at Sydney Adventist Hospital and Hornsby Hospital, he has earned the respect of patients and colleagues alike. Beyond Australia, Dr Campbell dedicated more than 12 years to improving maternal and child health in Papua New Guinea, working in Port Moresby, Vanimo, Lae and Goroka in challenging, resource-limited settings. His also volunteered at the Kampuchua refugee camp on the Thai-Cambodian border in 1980, as well as in Nepal, Singapore and Fiji, where he provided expert medical care to those in need. This award recognises not only an outstanding medical career, but a life defined by service to others.
