Today I recognise the extraordinary efforts of 16-year-old Nate Fullerton, 15-year-old Samuel Terry and 15-year-old Hamish Chalmers from Heritage College Lake Macquarie, who last month pushed their bodies and minds to the limit to raise desperately needed funds for Majimoto Secondary School in Kenya. The teenage trio took part in the gruelling Action for Agape Ride, a 250-kilometre mountain bike ride which spans from Canberra to Mount Kosciuszko and takes place over five days. The year 10 and 11 students managed to raise just shy of $5000, which will provide critical resources like textbooks, classroom supplies, food, clean water, and hygiene items for students at Majimoto Secondary School who face daily challenges due to poverty. In addition to the bike ride, the Heritage College community organised a sausage sizzle fundraiser, led by SRC members and Action for Agape team member Nate Fullerton. The event was a resounding success, with every sausage sold. While charity may indeed start at home, these three teenagers have proved themselves to be valuable members of our global community, going above and beyond to help their fellow students in Kenya, who truly needed it.
