Travelling Con Man

The Department of Fair Trading advises that in most cases these door-to-door traders target elderly and rural consumers, frequently offering to perform work on their property for a low price. Often they start work without consent and bully customers to obtain payment.

Consumers are encouraged to contact the Department on 133 220 to report any such activity.

Community funding opportunities

Community groups in the Lake Macquarie electorate are invited to apply for funding for infrastructure projects under the State Government’s Community Building Partnership (CBP) program.

The CBP program has brought more than $600,000 to community groups in the electorate over the past two years, funding projects such as upgrades to amenities at Lyall Peacock Field at Toronto and the Westlakes netball courts at Wangi Wangi, repairs and renovations to community halls at Marmong Point and Wyong Creek, and stage lighting and sound equipment for the Catalina Players.

Applications for grants under the 2013 round of funding open on 19 June and close on 31 July. Eligibility and application information be found online at: http://www.communitybuildingpartnership.nsw.gov.au/

Another source of funding for community groups is the ClubGRANTS program, which allocates money donated by registered clubs in NSW to organisations that provide welfare and support services or contribute to community development.

Applications are lodged through local council committees. Community groups in the Lake Macquarie City Council area can submit applications for funding under Category 1 of the scheme until 24 May. Applications have closed for groups within the Wyong Shire Council area.

For more information on the program and links to the relevant committee in your local government area, visit: http://www.clubsnsw.com.au/clubgrants.aspx
