A PUBLIC meeting will be held at Boolaroo on Tuesday night for residents to be updated about north Lake Macquarie lead contamination.

Lake Macquarie Lead Community Reference Group will provide details of work underway to manage lead pollution from the former Pasminco smelter.

Representatives from the Lead Expert Working Group, Lake Macquarie City Council, the Environment Protection Authority and Hunter New England Health will attend.

The community reference group was established in 2015 by the state government following the Newcastle Herald’s award-winning Toxic Truth series which revealed poor handling of the legacy pollution.

Last week the NSW government responded by providing $23.5 million over four years to better deal with contaminated land across NSW.

Boolaroo Action Group spokesman Jim Sullivan said the community wanted to know how much would find its way to north Lake Macquarie.

The meeting will be held at Boolaroo Public School from 6pm.
