¿ BEE AND VARROA MITE UPDATE
¿ Just a quick update on the varroa mite outbreak which is devastating the local bee population and associated industries.
¿ DPI yesterday detected varroa mite in three new locations - at Campvale near Williamtown, Holmesville near Wallsend and Glen Oak near Raymond Terrace. This brings the number of detection locations to 34 since the first detection on June 22.
¿ So far, 1693 hives have been euthanised and destroyed. ¿
¿ At this stage, any hives south of Toronto (and Valentine on the eastern side of the lake) and north of Wyong/Jilliby remain in the surveillance zones and not in the eradication zones.
¿ A reminder that no hives can currently be moved anywhere in NSW.
¿ This is a devastating outbreak and one I hope can be contained soon.
