¿ COVID UPDATE - 11.10am TUESDAY August 24 ¿
¿ More good news - there was just 1 new case recorded in the Hunter-New England health district in the 24 hours to 8pm last night. This brings the total number of cases in our health district to 164, with 143 still active but in isolation.
¿ That one case was from Newcastle LGA, is linked to the Jesmond aged care cluster and was not infectious in the community at any stage.
¿ 32 local people are currently being cared for in hospital with none in ICU.
¿ STATEWIDE: There were 753 new cases recorded throughout NSW in the 24 hours to 8pm last night. In more good news, no deaths have been recorded in NSW over the past 24 hours.
¿ HOSPITALISATIONS: There are 608 people currently being treated for Covid-19 in NSW hospitals, with 107 in ICU and 34 on ventilators.
¿ END OF LOCKDOWN: I'm getting a lot of questions about whether or not the local restrictions will be lifted this weekend as originally planned. We won't know the answer to that until Thursday, but given the low case number again today, we're certainly doing very well and are inching closer.
¿ NEW EXPOSURE SITES: I get asked a lot why some places are not added to NSW Health's list of exposure sites after a confirmed case has visited that venue. The answer is quite simple: if contact tracers are satisfied that everyone who visited a particular place at a particular time has been contacted and notified, there is no need to list the location as a 'venue of concern' or alert anyone else. Tracers use things such as QR code records and CCTV to determine the people at risk. So, if you see a business or venue that has closed for cleaning but isn't on the list, rest assured that tracers have done their jobs, have contacted everyone who needed to be contacted, and the venue or community is at no further risk of infection from that exposure. You can see a full list of current exposure sites here.
¿ QUESTIONS: My small team and I are still working through thousands of emails, phone and Facebook messages so I apologise if you haven't received a response yet. We're still hopeful of responding to everyone, but please see my Facebook or Website pages for answers to frequently asked questions. Service NSW also has a 24/7 hotline where people are available to answer questions. You can reach them on 13 77 88.
¿ Please stay safe, stay vigilant, and stay home unless you absolutely have to go somewhere.
