CHANCE TO WALK TO KOKODA TRACK

ClubsNSW and the RSL and Services Clubs Association are offering young people between the ages of 16 and 22 the opportunity to walk the Kokoda Track.

ClubsNSW covers the cost of flights, accommodation, food, camping equipment, boots and track permits. The aim is to identify and develop young people with leadership potential and the ability to inspire and educate others in their communities.

COMMUNITY BUILDERS

The State Government's Area Assistance Scheme (AAS) has recently evolved to become the Community Builders Program with a new funding round opening in November 2009. The program is funded by the NSW Department of Community Services.

COMMUNITY HEALTH

The Sunflower Centre is home to the Community Development and Education programs for the Schizophrenia fellowship of NSW in The Hunter New England Service region. The Sunflower Centre is working towards becoming a non-clinical one stop shop for people living with mental illness, their families and friends as well as working with the wider community to reduce stigma and increase mental health literacy across the Hunter New England region.

The Sunflower Centre's programs and activities:
  • Mental Health Consumer and Carer support Groups

  • Primary, Secondary, TAFE and University Education Programs

  • STAIRS (Support Through Advocacy, Information, Referral and Education Service)

  • Coordination and/or attendance at the Internal and External committees and meetings

  • Grants / Funding

  • Volunteer Program

  • Schizophrenia Awareness Week, Mental Health Week and Community Mental Health Activities in the Hunter Region

  • Mental Health First Aid
